Intent

All children to nurture the habit of reading widely and often for both pleasure and purpose

Learning through stories is also at the heart of our learning ethos and a wide range of high-quality texts, both fiction and non-fiction will be delved into, to excite and enhance each theme. We will enable all pupils to read fluently and with good understanding. Vocabulary and linguistic skills will be developed which will support their understanding and enjoyment of reading. This will in turn support writing skills through the art of speaking and listening in tandem with the ability to verbalise and express themselves. We provide an opportunity to appreciate our literary heritage and celebrate diversity through literature.
